Company.
Copic products from Japan enjoy global recognition for their exceptional quality and versatility, boasting an extensive palette of 358 colours. They dominate the market for specialized tools catering to designers, architects, illustrators, modellers, and enthusiasts alike. Notably, these markers feature a professional illustration tool—the airbrush—which has long been favoured by illustrators for its ability to blend seamlessly.

Opportunity.
Copic offers an airbrushing system that utilizes air suction to spray marker ink. However, this system has several drawbacks, including its bulkiness, reliance on compressed gas bottles, ergonomic limitations, and compatibility with only two types of markers.

Concept.
Addressing a genuine need for maximizing the diverse range of Copic products, this concept was conceived to enable professional illustrators to utilize all three types of Copic markers with their airbrushes. The adapter facilitates the seamless integration of various Copic marker inks, harnessing the benefits of the airbrushing technique.

Versatility.
This concept enables the adaptation of the three primary forms of Copic markers: Classic, Sketch, and Ciao. Moreover, it offers compatibility with other brands such as Prismacolor and Touch, providing versatility in marker selection for artists and illustrators.

Design
Language.
One of the prerequisites was to maintain the brand’s design language while prioritizing functionality. A solid body was used for marker adjustment and placement, while supplementary elements ensured optimal fitting and usability.

Materials.
This prototype is constructed from PA11 (SLS) with a Satin Clear coating, offering durability and a sleek finish. Designed for mass production, the final product will be manufactured using injection moulding with HDPE. The adjustment rubbers are crafted from silicone, providing flexibility and resilience for seamless marker adaptation.

How it works.
To spray ink from a Copic marker, begin by removing the cap and inserting the marker into the adapter. Attach the adapter to the airbrush, following the steps demonstrated in the video. The airflow from the airbrush will generate a suction effect, effectively lifting ink particles from the marker's surface for painting.
Details Design.
This concept enables the attachment of three different types of Copic markers (CIAO, SKETCH & CLASSIC) to a standard airbrush. Internal silicone fittings facilitate easy interchangeability. Additionally, a front door mechanism adjusts the marker to ensure stability during the painting process.
